A Multidisciplinary Approach to Developing a Continuous Monitoring System in Dairy Goat Farms Using Vocalization Analysis – VOCAPRA

In 2012, as part of the EU strategy “Europe 2020 for Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth,” the European Commission launched the European Innovation Partnership “Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability” (EIP-AGRI). The purpose of the Partnership is to promote an agriculture capable of combining the ability to compete on international markets with the ability to adapt to climate change and comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations, fostering a new, interactive approach to innovation. The implementation of innovation projects takes place through dedicated partnerships, known as Operational Groups, and is promoted by the Rural Development Fund of the Lombardy Region through Measure 16 “Cooperation,” and in particular through Operation 16.1.01.

The project “Multidisciplinary approach for the development of a continuous monitoring system in dairy goat farms through vocalization analysis” (VOCAPRA) is part of the Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) research line, which is highly relevant today for facilitating continuous and non-invasive monitoring on farms, and is dedicated to dairy goat management. VOCAPRA began in September 2019 and will last three years.

European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare

The vision of the EU Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare (designated by the abbreviation EUP AH&W or its acronym EUPAHW) is to provide society with sustainable livestock, poultry and aquaculture production. Infectious animal diseases are optimally prevented and controlled with appropriate means, antimicrobials are used prudently, and animal welfare is respected in every phase of the production cycle.
